Boku no Natsuyasumi 3 Review - Part 5
The opportunities for replay in Boku no Natsuyasumi 3 are many. My first play-through got me most of the way along the bug catching activity of the game. However, I did not progress very far at all with bottle cap collecting or bug sumo, and I completely overlooked the opportunities to help out in Megumi's glass shop. There are 5 different endings and while they are not worth an entire play-through in and of themselves, they make a fun goal for a play-through that includes other aspects of the game. Rest assured, unless you played through with a guide the first time there are plenty of things you missed.
The story is not memorable in itself so much as the experience is memorable. The characters become endearing as you progress through the game. There is a certain focus on the emotional issues surrounding the characters. Right from the start there is a cute scene where Midori is shy about sleeping next to you on the tatami floor. In addition to scenes like this there are also ones that effect characters lives dramatically like the elderly woman considering leaving her home and moving in with her son and his wife. Rest assured there will be tearful goodbyes when the summer is over.

I can't say that I've played a game like Boku no Natsuyasumi 3 ever in my life. It probably most closely resembles some of the adventure games I played as a child. It's so very different from the games that currently line the shelves in the US, especially for the PS3, that I can't not recommend it if you any interest in the game at all. It's beautiful, stylish, warm, happy, nostalgic, childish and mature at the same time. You may wonder if and how a game like this could be popular in Japan. All I can say is that it has a "the Best" version available which are only released for popular games. The "best" version is a great version to get since it is more affordable. Boku no Natsuyasumi 3 is only available for the PS3.

Boku no Natsuyasumi 3
Boku no Natsuyasumi 3 is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. The game not only resonates with my personal experiences during the 1970s (having grown up in rural America, I spent countless summer days going on adventures with my trusty butterfly and fishnet), it has enabled me to reconnect with that sense of childhood innocence (something we've all experienced, but tend to lose as we grow older). For anyone (regardless of generation) that remembers a time when every day presented an opportunity for a wonderful adventure, this game is a must play.
Matt, I can't thank you enough for recommending this game!!!
